• USC lost to Stanford, a 41-point underdog.
• Appalachian State, a Division I-AA power, went to The Big House and upset Michigan, 34-32.
• No. 1 Missouri and No. 2 West Virginia lost on the final Saturday of the season.
• LSU jumped from No. 7 to No. 2 on the final day of the regular season and then beat Ohio State for the BCS title. LSU became the first team with two losses to win a share of a mythical national championship.
